Chinese Families Autism Support Group meetings
We are delighted to announce Chinese Families Autism Support Group meeting in November.
Challenging behaviour is a common problem that parents face with their children with Autism. These behaviours vary between each child, such as flicking hands, rocking their bodies, self-harming behaviour, nakedness etc. These behaviours may often cause parents to feel frustrated, angry, hopeless and alone. Behaviour management is always a priority for parents. The topic of this meeting will be on Positive Behaviour Management.
Rickardt van Dyk, Specialist Service Manager, Surrey Jackson, Registered Psychologist, Rachel Young, Registered Psychologist and Jennifer Wan, Behaviour Support Specialist from Explore NZ will deliver the presentation. Jennifer will be presenting in Mandarin. Printed copies of the presentation (in English) will be available. The presentation is starting promptly at 10am.

Indian Parents Social Group – Otahuhu
Disability Connect wishes you a Happy New Year! We are delighted to welcome back our Indian families to the South Auckland Support Group (Otahuhu). This Parent Support Group meeting is for Indian Families raising a child or supporting a person with a disability.
The dates for this year will be as follows
This meeting would be in a relaxed ‘conversational’ environment, without an official speaker – everyone is free to talk amongst themselves, make new friends, connect for support, or just ask any questions that you’re interested in. Asoka Gamage-Mendis from Disability Connect will be hosting these evenings. Children are welcome to attend as long as they are supervised by a parent or sibling.
Please let everyone who might be interested know about this group meeting – we are welcoming, warm and approachable and want to provide a supportive environment where everyone is free to chat, ask questions or just be surrounded by others in a similar situation.
At Disability Connect we work inclusively and cross-culturally with the ethnically diverse community of Auckland.
