Individualised Funding including Respite

Individualised Funding is a mechanism for managing some Ministry of Health funded supports as a budget, instead of the ‘service provider’ option where an agency sends a support worker to your home to perform the tasks and care. Individualised funding offers choice, control and flexibility in the management of some supports for a disabled person. For example, the disabled person (or their agent managing their supports) is able to either employ a support worker of their choice, or use a contractor to provide support. The hours in which the care is provided is agreed by the disabled person (or their agent) and the support worker offering a more targeted and appropriate support for individuals needs.

Personal Cares, Household Management and Respite are the funded supports which (if the disabled person is eligible and receiving these supports) can be transferred into Individualised Funding. There are host agencies to support the management of Individualised Funding and various options for support include the baseline coaching and reporting support through to payroll, Human Resources and Recruitment support.

This seminar covers all these aspects of Individualised Funding:

  • What is Individualised Funding, which supports does it relate to?
  • The process of transferring to Individualised Funding
  • Who are the Host Agencies and what do they do?
  • What can I do with my IF (and what can I not do)?
  • Managing an IF budget over a year – flexibility
  • Employment or Contractor
  • Respite under IF – how is this managed as a budget?
  • The governments emerging ‘New Model’ for supporting people with a disability and how the future might look
