Parents’ Support Group – Monthly Wednesdays

Topic: Overwhelmed to Empowered

Overwhelmed to Empowered is a workshop designed to support family carers who are feeling stretched, exhausted, or unsure of themselves – often experiencing feelings of guilt, anxiety, helplessness and shame. Through developing self-awareness and self-compassion, participants will recognise patterns that may not be helpful and build confidence to change.

This workshop creates space to reflect, reconnect with your own needs, and understand why putting yourself first is not selfish — it’s essential for both you and your family.

Facilitator: Natalija Isailovic

Natalija Isailovic is a counselor with a background in special education and a strong passion for supporting parental emotional and psychological well-being – particularly for parents of children experiencing behavioural challenges. Her work centres on the often-overlooked needs of parents, while thoughtfully holding the wider family system in mind. She believes that when parents invest in their own well-being, they nurture not only themselves, but their children as well.

At Disability Connect our ethos is based on promoting cultural cohesiveness and inclusivity towards building a supportive community. We welcome all families caring for a person with a disability to attend this support group. Children are welcome, provided they are supervised by a family member.

Disability Connect offers cultural special support groups to families with children who have special needs as part of the CALD service (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Disability Information and Advisory Service) for different ethnic groups. We have a “Chinese Families Disability Support Group” that runs every third Thursday of a month at the Anchorage Park Community House in Pakuranga (or on zoom) and also a “Parents’ Support Group” and “Parents’ Social Group” in Otahuhu (or on zoom). We welcome all families with special needs to join the relevant support group. It is a great opportunity for parents to share their experience and network with each other.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
