Disability Connect offers cultural special support groups to families with children of special needs as part of the CALD service (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Disability Information and Advisory Service) for different ethnic groups. We have a ”Chinese Families Autism Support Group” that runs every third Tuesday of a month in Pakuranga and also a “Parents’ Support Group” which runs monthly on a Thursday at Mt Richmond School and an “Indian Families Social Group” which runs monthly on a Monday in Otahuhu. We welcome all families with special needs to join the relevant support group. It is a great opportunity for parents to share their experience and network with each other. Please contact Sanny, Asoka or Robyn at Disability Connect for more information or bookings, phone 09 526 1298 (DDI) Sanny /09 636 0351 or email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
We do not charge parents to attend our seminars, however we charge professionals $50 each per seminar. This can be paid by cash, cheque (made out to our full organisation name Parent and Family Resource Centre Inc.) or direct debit. We do not accept credit card or Eftpos payments. We are happy to send an invoice at the time of booking. Payment is required prior to attendance.
Chinese Families Autism Support Group
We are delighted to announce the first meeting of Chinese Families Autism Support Group meeting in 2018.
Families are often confused with the types of support that they may be eligible for from Work and Income. Therefore, this meeting is going to explain the types of Work and Income supports which individuals may be eligible for if living with a disability or raising a child with a disability. Eligibility criteria will be explained – also whether particular supports are means tested or not, and income thresholds if they are.
Lisa Martin, CEO at Disability Connect will deliver this presentation in English and it will be interpreted into Mandarin. Print copies of the presentation (in English) will be available. The presentation is starting promptly at 10am.

This meeting would be in a relaxed ‘conversational’ environment, without an official speaker – everyone is free to talk amongst themselves, make new friends, connect for support, or just ask any questions that you’re interested in. Asoka Gamage-Mendis from Disability Connect will be hosting these evenings. Children are welcome to attend as long as they are supervised by a parent or sibling.
Please let everyone who might be interested know about this group meeting – we are welcoming, warm and approachable and want to provide a supportive environment where everyone is free to chat, ask questions or just be surrounded by others in a similar situation.
At Disability Connect we work inclusively and cross-culturally with the ethnically diverse community of Auckland.
